The German Short Film Award On the Road

The German Short Film Award has been awarded since 1956 and it is the most important and most lucratively endowed award for short films in Germany. In the past, prominent directors like Edgar Reitz, Wim Wenders, Werner Herzog or Elfi Mikesch had set off on their careers with this award. The award winners have been touring from cinema to cinema since 1998 as a short film programme.

This year's tour will be organized by the AG Kurzfilm, while the KurzFilmAgentur and the Bundesverband Kommunale Filmarbeit will be in charge of distribution. The current award winners and nominees are on the road from April to October with three feature length programmes.

The programme Liebe, Laster, Lebenslügen will be presented in the course of the festival on Thursday, 5 June 2008 19.45 h in the 3001

More informationen about the programme and the The German Short Film Award On the Road can be found at www.kurzfilmpreisunterwegs.org.

Mo&Friese late night

Late at Night

On Thursday 5 June 2008 22.00 h, when the little ones are asleep and dreaming of the next day of Mo&Friese, the grown-ups can once again take a look into the children’s programme at the 3001.

The programme consists of films from all four age brackets of the Mo&Friese festival programmes. All genres are represented, including short narratives, animations, documentaries and experimental shorts. The amount of children’s films which had originally been submissions to the international competition shows that the transitions between them and films for grown-ups is rather seamless.

As a special bonus, we are once again expecting some of the film makers, who will personally present their films. So, treat yourself with a bundle of surprises!

A Wall Is a Screen

A Wall is a Screen intends to show new perspectives while fine-tuning your perception of the structures of public places. To achieve this, our mobile short film cinema will illuminate the usually ignored facades around the main central station with the help of Hinz&Kunzt street magazine. DJ Raphaël Marionneau will take care of the acoustical department.

Meeting Place:

Friday, 6 June 2008, 22.30 h

Saturn, Mönckebergstraße

Entrance is free!

Short Film School - Workshop results

Short Film School is a project by the KurzFilmAgentur Hamburg e.V.

Watching films in the cinema isn’t the only way to acquire cinematic competence. Experimenting with moving images is another one. That is why the KurzFilmSchule is offering workshops for children and adolescents directly at their schools. Under the professional guidance of filmmakers and educators, children and teenagers learn to create their own short films of all genres, including documentaries, short narratives and experimental shorts.

On Saturday, 7 June 2008 15.00 h, the results of these workshops will be presented at the KFA’s projection room (Friedensallee 7, 1st floor).

Festival Open Air - Eleven Minutes - The Football Short Film Reel

The KurzFilmVerleih of the KurzFilmAgentur Hamburg presents:

Eleven Minutes - The Football Short Film Reel

EM, or Europameisterschaft, was the German name of the biggest European football tournament. It's now called the EURO. But EM has not been forgotten, and it's suitable for a match in the mind. For us EM is the abbreviation for Eleven Minutes.

And Eleven Minutes can be watched - as several short films, most of them 11 minutes long. Teams from Austria and Switzerland, EURO 2008's host countries, play with the theme of football, rather than the ball itself. "Eleven Minutes" is a collection of nine short films in total, both current productions and rediscovered cinematic jewels. The ways in which the subject is approached are as varied as the film teams' lineups. On opposite sides of the "pitch" newcomers are teamed with experienced filmmakers, fiction films alternate with audiovisual experiments, documentaries with film essays.

Like a real football match,Eleven Minutes has two halves in which two countries, rather than competing against one another, will try to win together.

Festival Open Air, on Saturday, 7 June 2008, approx. 22.30 h

Venue: Am Schlachthof, Neuer Kamp 30, 20357 Hamburg, U-Feldstraße

HamburgerKino presents KinoKabaret 2008

There are plenty of things you can do within 60 hours: You can sleep in thrice, eat a healthy breakfast and be ready to be exploited, have about 20 rows with your honeybunny or you can do or plan countless other socially accepted things. That's what you would call a well-ordered lifestyle. But that's for other people, who we hardly know (if we know them at all, that is).

After all, you can just as well use this time to plan, shoot, cut and most of all screen short films. And that is what we call KinoKabaret. And the HamburgerKino and its allies are in charge of it.

We invite all actors, directors, script writers, cutters, cinematographers and musicians who would like to experience the energies set free when no-budget filmmakers from all over the world meet and let all hell loose to come to the Angelklub (St. Pauli Fischmarkt 18) from 6 June to 14 June 2008.

There will be three rounds, and the second round will be an all silent-films round. These films will be set to music live during the screenings.

Come, join us and go wild!

Talent Meets Producer

The short film is an independent form of art and again and again it is a place of new cinematic narratives. In order to support this independent quality, the Hamburg International Short Film Festival is systematically supporting the getting together of different creative people in short films, such as directors, producers, distributors, other representatives of festivals and others. For the last two years, we have been organizing several events within the frame of Talent meets Producer. They are intended to ease the exchange between the participants while fostering talents and offering new insights.

Talent meets Producer is supported by

Intimate Talent meets Producer
Talent trifft Produzent: Talent meets Producer: Open House FFHSH
Talent meets Producer: Music-Copyright in Short Films
Talent meets Producer: Sound Design in Short Films

Intimate Talent meets Producer

The mediation of personal talks between young filmmakers and producers is a recurring event. We intend to give young filmmakers and producers the opportunity to talk about their concerns in a relaxed environment far from the usual expectations. The personal talks will be arranged in the run-up to the festival and will be held as a closed event during the festival-week.

The participation of directors and producers is only possible after a previous invitation.

Talent meets Producer: Open House FFHSH

On the occasion of the Hamburg International Short Film Festival, Film Fund Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein (FFHSH) invites to the foyer of the Medienhaus to inform German and European filmmakers about various regional funding opportunities as well as about the location Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Snacks and coffee are provided.

On Thursday, 6 June 2008 from 11.30 h to 13.00 h, foyer of the Medienhaus, Friedensallee 14-16, 22765 Hamburg (opposite to the festival center)

Talent meets Producer: Music-Copyright in Short Films

This year's third subject is an information event regarding the subject of music-copyright in short films. In the field of shorts, this has often posed problems that barred the way to a public beyond the festival landscape. Andrés Heyn, a lawyer specialized on music-copyright law will give an overview and point out the central steps to be considered. He will also focus on common mistakes and misinformation. Afterwards, there will be time for a Q&A session. The event is open to all interested.

Friday, 6 June 2008 16.00-17.30 h, in the Filmhaus projection room, room 108 (1st floor), Friedensallee 7-9, 22765 Hamburg

Talent meets Producer: Sound Design in Short Films

The workshop Sound Design in Short Films will take two days. It will be held by Matt Hulse, who has been working as a successful short film artist for many years now. He is the initiator and curator of the project Audible Picture Show a collection of shorts that do without pictures and merely use the sound track. This show has been successfully travelling through the festival landscape in the USA and Europe since 2003. The Audible Picture Show's approach is the basis of this workshop.

Friday, 6 June 2008 18.00 h: Presentation of Audible Picture Show in the Filmhaus projection room, room 108 (1st floor)

The presentation is open to everyone!

The workshop is take place on Saturday, 7 June 2008 and Sunday, 8 June from 11.00 - 17.00 h.
