Do you know Taiwan? An island in the Pacific Ocean - 36,000 m_ in size – situated between the Chinese mainland, Japan and the Philippines. Taiwan has big cities, mountains, beaches and it’s a lot warmer there than it is here! There are three main dialects but almost everyone can speak and understand Mandarin (Chinese). They use chopsticks – have you ever tried that? It’s not as easy as you might think. People in Taiwan love their children and are very proud of them.
Puppetry, as performed by Wen-Zeng’s grandfather, is part of the country’s tradition – as are the saying of Aunt Tiger. Although children are well-loved and taken care of, life isn’t always sweet in Taiwan, as we hear from Hasiao-Iung in the film »The Anti-Nuke Warrior«. And in another film, Badu’s teacher seems to be just as strict as teachers here in Germany can be…
Enough said. Let’s go the cinema – and you can see it all for yourself! Filmmakers and other guests from Taiwan will also be there to answer all your questions.

A special thank-you to the press department at the Taipeh Agency in BRD, the Government Information Office Taiwan and Public Television Services in Taipeh for their tremendous support.

WORKSHOP: »EXPERIENCE CINEMA« | PROGRAMME NEW WORLDS

Workshop »Experience Cinema«
In cooperation with the Public School for the Visually Impaired in Schleswig

Movies for blind people? Yes! So that visually handicapped children can orient themselves better in a cinema, we are offering an appropriate, first-time workshop for them.
How large is a cinema? How do the seats work? What does a projectionist do and where does he do it? What do film material and the curtain feel like, and where do you turn up the volume?
Blind and visually impaired children can follow up on these and other questions by their senses of touch, sound and vision in the »experience cinema« workshop.
Only visually impaired children of eight years or older can participate. We’ll meet on Saturday, 12 June at 1:15 p.m. at the zeise cinema box office. Please sign up beforehand!
Participation in the workshop, including a screening, will be three euros per child.
You will receive detailed information when you sign up.
After the presentation, we will be screening the programme »New Worlds« at 3 p.m. The films have lots of dialogs and are thus well suited for blind and visually handicapped people.
