The decision to focus special attention on Japanese films stems from the sheer mass and quality of the Japanese films submitted for the festival year upon year. Finally, their time has come. But are you sure you are ready for this?
From trashy to elegant, from blah to blah, and from no-budget home videos to Oscar-nominated shorts, we have put together four (compact) programmes of films for you presenting a selection of contemporary Japanese short film works OR a selection of the delicacies which Japan has to offer in the field of short films.
The programmes include:
funny, tragic and bizarre stories from and about Japan,
Filmmakers are experimenting not only with the medium and means of
production, with digital effects and different forms of animation but also with
narrative structures as demonstrated in our programme of experimental films.
The wide range of works in our animation programme proves there is much
more to Japanese animation than just Manga.
