The bitfilm Forum on WWW www.bitfilm.de |
Until now, there has always been a clear distinction between film professionals and amateurs. But the digital revolution has turned the old relationship on its head. Digital cameras are constantly becoming cheaper and better, and are now able to deliver broadcast quality images. Today, on low-cost home computers one can edit, animate and produce special effects that until recently would have required a budget in the millions. The Internet now gives unknown filmmakers the opportunity to network with each other and show their work to a world-wide audience. This year, the International Hamburg Short Film Festival focuses on these developments in the bitfilm Festival with its three film programmes. »3D Animation« contains films completely generated on computers. »Mixed-Media Films« are shorts with an analogue content which has then been digitally manipulated. The special programme »Insective« is dedicated to films where insects play the leading role. Since 1995 we have been screening digital films as part of the International Hamburg Short Film Festival. However this year's bitfilm Festival programme contains a much wider range of digitally produced films than ever before. The public will have an opportunity to enjoy the most important digital short film productions of the last year on a large cinema screen and decide which one wins the »Al Dente« public prize. Furthermore we are organising the first ever bitfilm Forum. For the creators of the »film worlds« being screened in the bitfilm Festival programme, the forum will provide a platform for giving »making of« reports and demonstrations, and for holding panel discussions. It is mainly intended for filmmakers who would like to learn more about the various digital media, but also for multimedia experts who want to examine the world of film more closely. For those members of the public who for reasons of time or distance cannot attend the festival itself, we are now giving them an opportunity to enjoy the bitfilm Festival programme parallel on the Internet. For the first time ever we are enlarging the real festival this year with a virtual festival on the World Wide Web at www.bitfilm.de. Here you can find videostreams of the films, web-cam impressions and a festival magazine.. |
