Interim Report

In the absence of alternatives, this year in the »Made in Germany« programme we are again mainly screening films in traditional genres. And it seems the short drama film is the most popular of these in the German short film world. Among this year's pearls are angry teenagers, dancing supermarket trolleys, the tragedy of being single, joyriders, and the question of how to get rid of a dead junkie in the smartest possible way.

Fortunately, unexpected topics enrich this survey of German short films. This should prove very informative for the whole audience, as both our domestic and foreign guests will be glad to see films that are not simply limited to rehashing common ideas on morality. So we are delighted to be able to show you some very special films this year far removed from the often-screened traditional film school love story.

Nobody would pretend our search was easy, but ultimately we did succeed. In addition to the ten short drama films, we even found four experimental shorts, one animation film and four documentaries. It's a fact that in a short text like this one cannot summarise all the films in a series of brief headlines. So our suggestion is, come along and see what our search has uncovered and what we no longer want to hide from you. You will discover that German filmmakers have their qualities, although they do stay close to traditional filmmaking..

But to be honest, we really would have liked to find more experimental shorts. After all, we thought »movies for Mom and Pop« had been taken care of long ago.
