Three-Minute Quickie Competition - General

The subject of the 31st Three-Minute-Quickie was “Scandal”. Once again, we called out to film makers from all over the world to produce related films of three minutes or less and to submit them. In 2018, the selection panel chose 25 films out of 201 submissions, which will compete for the audience’s favour and a prize money of 1,000 Euros.

The more people are morally outraged about an event, the greater the scandal. In this sense, it’s going to be very interesting to see what will outrage the sympathetic audience, and where the crossed lines will be located. After all, the subject did create awkward debates among ourselves as well. Values and ethic sensibilities collided and they were repeatedly reviewed, they contended in a balanced fashion and in the end, they were deemed valuable and utterly despised. Scandals from the worlds of politics, art, religion, the institution of marriage and much more came to light. Even love’s innocence, the quest for truth and a Spanish Harvey Weinstein got their just desserts.

The exact location of the line between legitimate outrage and fake indignation lies in the eye of the beholder. We did our best to assemble many facets and now it’s time for the audience to come up with their own ranking. It won’t be easy. But it certainly will be entertaining.

The Three-Minute Quickie Competition is supported by the Hamburgische Kulturstiftung. The winner will receive 1,000 Euros (awarded by the audience).

Three-Minute Quickie Competition 2018 in detail

Subject: Scandal

Scandals are like avalanches: At first, nobody even notices anything. Or nobody neither knew nor wanted to know anything. Somebody kept mum. Or somebody no longer stayed silent. Then comes the big bang, tearing everything apart until no stone is left unturned and everybody turns against everybody else or ends up screaming around like the woman in the parking garage. Who’s in the right? Her or aggro-dad?

We waded through the swamp of depravity and fished out a couple of juicy scandals from the 201 international submissions of the Three-Minute Quickie’s 31st edition. Or did you already know about the exploitation of senior citizens in the porn industry? You probably all forgot about Zwingli. And tunnels are the worst anyway. John Smith can sing you a song about it. And when nothing seems to work out in life, you even step into a … Oh, well, you can imagine into what.

Anyway, we really were tearing our hair out during the screening process because a lot of film makers went alarmingly far in their attempt to convince us. For your sake, dear audience, the eternal knot was tied. You can’t even get that much reality on the telly these days. So, come in hordes. Everything else would be a scandal.
