Festival Center Post: Kaltenkircher Platz

While it invokes memories of hundred-yard long waiting queues at the parcel collection office for many inhabitants of Hamburg, it has become a place of longing and creative playground for us. We have been calling the vast halls of the former package sorting facility north of the new centre of Altona our festival home since 2018. The new soul of the festival is also one of the few remaining vacant spaces in this newly constructed district. We fill this vacancy with cinema, art and dance.
In the last year we were able to try out a lot of things. This year we enlarge the cinematic space with the Cinema Expanded in vivo. In our video art hall Open Space, we host the exhibition »Sitting on the Earth of Tomorrow’s Sunrise« by the Brazilian artist duo Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca. Both will be in Hamburg for the entire week.

Behind the hall we will erect the open-air cinema, and due to the national holiday, it will even get an additional day this year. There will be a second open-air cinema in the entrance to the underground car park. Watching films in the open is like gazing at the stars in the sky. We’re paying homage to analogue techniques: Film projectors will roll over the place, balls will find their way to minigolf holes and hot beats will move all booties. The halls feature the cuddly »Lampenlager« cinema. We invite you in cooperation with the Analog Filmwerke in Altona to personally expose and develop Super-8 films for the time of the festival. For those who still don’t think it’s hot enough, we offer installative sauna sessions. We open the doors of this exciting place for all and are looking forward to our second year at the post.
